Dear Constiuents of the 9th Congressional District of NY, I am a middle class individual running for the 9th Congressional District seat of New York to achieve the following goals: enhance the economy; provide health care for all American citizens; improve education; reform immigration; bring our troops home safely. Enhancement of the economy will come from tax cuts for individuals and businesses. Tax cuts for individuals will help them keep their money and their homes. Decreasing business taxes will increase the businesses ability to hire more employees, increasing jobs for our area. We're spending over 30 billion dollars per year in financial aid for other countries. Iraq receives most of this financial aid. Financial aid is used mostly in support of the foreign countries military. I want to decrease or stop financial support for some of the countries (On a case by case basis.), which will help to decrease taxes, support social security, and enhance our ability to provide a universal health care system for all Americans. I am also advocating budget cuts and balancing of the budget to help decrease taxes. Tax and spend within the government needs to be stopped to increase economic growth. I travel 2 ½ hours, 130 miles to and from work. This is a total of 5 hours and 260 miles a day. Fuel costs are a big issue to all of us Americans. I as well as other Americans must support our families and traveling long distances is required. We need to be allowed to drill off the coasts of Florida, Texas, California, while also drilling in Alaska. We must utilize nuclear energy and we also need to increase our research in developing alternative fuels. When we increase our supplies of fuels, obtain alternative fuels, increase utilization of nuclear energy, and not rely on other countries, we will see a decrease in fuel prices. I am promoting universal health care for all legal citizens of the United States of America. Universal health care should be provided for all Americans regardless of their ability to pay for health care services. We can pay for this through decreasing or stopping financial support for other countries. We should establish the universal health care system by mimicking the military health care system. Establish caps on salaries and develop pay scales similar to the governmental pay scales with bonuses for specialties. Education can be achieved for all Americans by colleges and universities utilizing all funds received from alumni, sports, etc. to stop the increase of tuition. Americans should have the freedom of choice to send their children to public or private schools. I would promote federal payments to private schools equal to public schools, which would alleviate the yearly tuition for sending a child to a private school. I want immigration reformed by building a wall or fence and increasing border security to prevent illegal immigration. Illegal is illegal! I am against the amnesty program, which allows for illegal immigration. I also believe businesses with illegal immigrants, as employees should be fined. America should not encourage illegal immigration. Illegal immigration takes jobs, health care assistance, tax dollars, education, and various other programs away from American citizens. The war in Iraq was established from information President Bush received from intelligence and I would have voted for the war. I would have pushed for an end to the war after the fourth day, when we actually won the war, or when we captured Saddam. We should have brought our troops home at this time and worked toward the United Nations joining with the Iraq forces to police their country. I would have also gone to war with Afghanistan with the information we received. I believe we should have also worked toward the United Nations joining with Afghanistan forces to police their country. I believe now is the time to bring our troops home safely. We must work at removing our troops as quickly as possible and turning over the policing detail to the respective countries and the United Nations. I am running for the 9th Congressional District of New York to bring back this congressional district to the Republican Party. I have been brought up in New York. I am in the race for congress to be the voice for the people of the 9th District of New York. I see New Yorkers on the verge of losing their homes. I want to ensure individuals with one home and living in this home won't lose it. My family and I have suffered through job losses and no medical or dental insurance. I have had to utilize the health care programs of New York State and sometimes I wasn't allowed assistance. I believe we can provide health care for all of our citizens. I also believe illegal immigration should not be tolerated and we need to stop it now. All governmental programs should be for American citizens. I am an American veteran with 20 years of service in the U.S. Navy and U.S. Naval Reserves. We need to strengthen and increase our military to show other countries we are militarily strong and show our military we care about them and back them in time of war. This will also prevent further attacks of Americans on our soil. It is time to bring our military home and we must do it safely. Please join me in my "for the people, by the people, one of the people" campaign. Thank you Joseph M. Schmidt |
